2009 Rock Toys: A Yearly Review or Rock n Roll Toys, Action Figures and Bobbleheads!

The year of 2009 was a great year for collectors of rock toys, music figures and bobbleheads. Previously, Mcfarlane Toys led the pack when it came to the manufacturing of rock toys and music-related action figures. Mcfarlane Toys took the year off and didn't bring any music action figures to the market in 2009. In past years, Mcfarlane's rock music toys were some of the most well known and widely distributed music action figures anywhere. Their line of music action figures was anchored by a one or two new Elvis Presley action figures each year. In addition, their portfolio of rock toys has included action figures or other legendary rockers like KISS, Slash, the Beatles, Jim Morrison, Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi and more.

Coming to the rescue of collectors of rock toys, Funko Toys released an entire line of rock music toys in late 2009. The Funko Rock Icons line includes a ton of cool music bobbleheads and action figures. These rock toys include action figures and bobbleheads of Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Elvis Presley.

For collectors looking for a more realistic depiction of some classic rockers, Medicom Toys released a very realistic set of rock toys based on the Rolling Stones. These Rolling Stones action figures include a Keith Richards and a Mick Jagger action figure.

On a different note, some musicians and bands jumped into the ring of creating their own designer toys. These unique rock toys are limited edition toys that don't necessarily depict a band or artist, but they are designed by the band. Some great examples of these include the Mr. Hahn Ningyo vinyl figure created by Mr. Hahn or the band Lincoln Park or the Kill Audio vinyl figure designed by Claudio Sanchez of Coheed and Cambria. This unique rock toy is supposed to be based on the Kill Audio comic by Claudio Sanchez, but it sure looks a lot like Claudio himself!

The end of 2009 was a great year for collectors of rock toys, but from what we're hearing, 2010 should prove to be even better. Lots of new licenses are currently available for companies to make new rock toys in 2010 and there are more and more smaller companies that have been recognizing the importance for the rock n roll toy market.
