Music Action Figure News - A History of Kurt Cobain Figures

In 2006, NECA announced that they purchased the licensing rights to manufacture Kurt Cobain figures based on the legendary front-man of the band Nirvana. The first NECA Kurt Cobain figure was a named “Teen Spirit”. This rock ‘n’ roll figure was based on Kurt Cobain’s appearance in Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit music video. The 7 inch Teen Spirit action figure included the Kurt Cobain figure and a number of accessories, including Kurt Cobain’s blue Fender guitar. The amazing likeness of the Teen Spirit figure to Kurt Cobain has made this figure a must have for any rock ‘n’ roll music action figure collector.

Riding on the amazing popularity of NECA’s first Kurt Cobain figure, they were quick to release a second action figure based on one of the most legendary performances in the short life of the band Nirvana. The 7 inch Kurt Cobain Unplugged figure featured Kurt Cobain as he was seen in the MTV Nirvana Unplugged television special. This second Kurt Cobain figure came complete with accessories including an acoustic guitar, chair, and microphone stand. As the Kurt Cobain Unplugged figures were flying off the shelf in early 2007, NECA released a pumped up version of their first Kurt Cobain figure. This huge 18” representation of Kurt Cobain kept action figure collectors and Kurt Cobain fans wanting more. The incredibly lifelike 18 inch Kurt Cobain “Teen Spirit” figure was another instant hit!

To ride the popularity of the Kurt Cobain figures wave, NECA announced at the 2007 San Diego Comic Con that they will release a new Kurt Cobain figure in 2008. NECA has promised Kurt Cobain fans everywhere that this new figure will be exactly that… NEW! No prototypes, pictures, or sketches of the new action figure have been released by NECA, but we are all waiting patiently. The new Kurt Cobain figure is expected to be released sometime in early 2008.
