The first Elvis action figure by Mcfarlane Toys was released in 2004 and, although it was not known at the time, this figure was the first in a legendary line of collectible Elvis music action figures by Mcfarlane. This first Elvis action figure was called the Mcfarlane Elvis Presley ’68 Comeback Special figure. It was a 6-inch figure based on Elvis’ televised 1968 performance that later became known as his comeback concert. Interestingly enough, in early 2008, Mcfarlane will release a new Elvis Presley “Gospel” action figure that is also based on this concert. The soon be released Elvis Gospel figure depicts “The King” performing the last song of his ’68 Comeback concert. The song was a gospel favorite, and was the only time that Elvis was shown on TV performing a gospel song on stage. In the time between the releases of these Mcfarlane Elvis action figures, a number of other Elvis Presley action figures have been released by Mcfarlane Toys.
The year 2004 was a big year for Mcfarlane Elvis action figures. In addition to the very first Mcfarlane Elvis '68 Comeback Special Elvis action figure, this figure was also released as a pumped-up 12-inch scale action figure by Mcfarlane. To continue the trend, two more Mcfarlane Elvis action figures were released in 2004. The Elvis action figure named "Rockabilly" features Elvis Presley in all his hip shakin' glory from his rockabilly years. Quickly following the Elvis Rockabilly action figure was the Mcfarlane Elvis action figure called "Las Vegas". This amazing 6-inch scale action figure was released in November of 2004 and recreates a moment in rock 'n' roll history from a 1970's Elvis performance in Las Vegas.
As the first Mcfarlane Elvis action figures flew off retailer's shelves, 2004 passed and Mcfarlane Toys gave the Elvis action figures a break... almost! The Mcfarlane music action figure line of 2005 focused its' attention on some other rock figures such as guitar god, Slash from the band Guns 'n' Roses, some new KISS action figures, and an amazing Mcfarlane Beatles cartoon action figure box set. Somehow, Mcfarlane still found a way to churn out a couple new Elvis figures that year. One of the most popular Elvis action figures ever made was released in 2005 by Mcfarlane and was simply called "Elvis 4". This 6-inch Mcfarlane Elvis figure depicted "The King" in all his rock 'n' roll glory wearing a very shiny gold outfit he wore in a 1956 concert performance in New York City. The Mcfarlane Elvis "Las Vegas" figure was also released in 2005 as a 12-inch figure. To top off 2005, a three figure box set was repackaged for Elvis fans to get the Elvis '68 Comback Special figure, the Elvis "Las Vegas" figure, and the Elvis "Rockabilly" figure in one box set.
In February of 2006, the Mcfarlane Elvis Presley "Jailhous Rock" action figure was released. This 6-inch Elvis action figure was the only Elvis figure released on 2006. It depicted Elvis Presley in a classic pose from his 1957 "Jailhouse Rock" movie. The figure came complete with a custom stage, a stack of 45 records behind him, and cell walls rockin'. Later that year, Elvis' sixth Mcfarlane action figure hit the shelves. The Elvis "Blue Hawaii" action figure brought The King's classic look from the film Blue Hawaii to life.
Finally, in 2007, a number of Mcfarlane Elvis action figures were released by Mcfarlane Toys. The original Mcfarlane Elvis action figure, the '68 Comeback Special figure, was rereleased as a commorative action figure box set to remember the 25th Anniversary of the death of Elvis. The 6-inch Elvis Las Vegas action figure was also released in 2007.
As mentioned earlier, 2008 is shaping up to be a great year for Mcfarlane Elvis action figures. Mcfarlane Toys has already announced the release of the Elvis "Gospel" action figure and many more are sure to come.
