Iron Maiden Merchandise: A History of Iron Maiden Eddie the Head!

Iron Maiden's mascot Eddie, otherwise known as "Eddie the Head" is an ever-present icon in Iron Maiden's album artwork and on-stage decorations. Eddie was "discovered" by Iron Maiden when they were reviewing some of their past album cover artwork. On the cover of their single "Running Free", there was a silhouette of a zombie-looking character. This art was created by Derek Riggs so the band asked him to create the character that cast the shadow on the "Running Free" single cover. Eddie the Head was the creation of that work. This initial artwork became the album art to Iron Maiden's self titled album. Since that time, Iron Maiden's Eddie has appeared on all of the Iron Maiden album covers as well as at their live shows. The original Iron Maiden Eddie was a huge latex mask that was injected with different fluids to cause Eddie to drool all over Iron Maiden as they performed. It has been a past time of Iron Maiden fans to try to throw items into the mouth of Eddie during live performances for decades.

Since that time, Eddie has appeared in 100's of other types of Iron Maiden merchandise including Iron Maiden toys, action figures, posters, canvas wall art prints and other memorabilia.
