NECA Regan Exorcist Action Figure Review

In 2008, NECA terrified action figure collectors with a new figure from the 1970’s horror movie The Exorcist. The six inch action figure is part of the NECA Cult Classics line that features figures based on cult and horror movies. The Exorcist action figure depicts Regan, the troubled and possessed little girl from the movie. The figure and accessories are an amazing representation of one of the most memorable scenes in The Exorcist.

What’s Cool?

Great Action Figure Pose - NECA really outdid themselves with the pose and articulation of the Exorcist figure. By designing the figure to be able to balance on the feet and hair, they have captured the feeling of the legendary “spider walk” scene from the movie. In a unique twist, the hands of the action figure are not used to pose the figure. A nice effect is created to give the illusion that the Exorcist figure is floating through the air.

The articulation of the figure is slightly limited. It only has a neck joint with swivel forearms and legs. Normally, a lack of articulation is a bad thing for an action figure because it takes the ability away from collectors to pose figures to fit with the rest of their collection. For the Exorcist action figure, it doesn’t seem to matter. A lot of thought was put into the creation of this figure by NECA to have it work with the staircase display base. Most collectors will probably elect to display the Exorcist figure on the stairs, so the lack of articulation isn’t a problem.

Excellent Life-Like Sculpting and Paint – The Exorcist action figure is towards the top of the list of NECA Cult Classics action figures. The unique pose certainly helps make this figure stick out, but the sculpting and paint by the artists at NECA is impeccable, too. The head sculpt of the Regan figure is an almost perfect copy directly from the movie. In addition, the ruffles and details of the nightgown and hair of the figure are perfect. The action figure paint is clean and crisp. Our figure did not contain any paint smudges and had very clean lines. The paint detailing on the face and hair of the action figure is impeccable.

What Could Use Some Help?

Fragile Base for Display – The stair display base for the Exorcist figure is a perfect accessory, but the railing for the stairs has parts that are a bit fragile. As with many action figure accessories that are molded to have very skinny parts, the railing is fragile and could break during display or shipment of the action figure. Fortunately, NECA did make some effort to protect this part of the display. It is tightly secured in plastic clamshell packaging for protection.
