Our very own Josh Lundorff, the owner of Rock-n-Roll-Action-Figures.com, recently weighed in on a new $500 action figure of Wu Tang Clan's Ghostface Killah for a new
MTV.com article. "MTV recently contacted me to discuss the revitalization of the action figure industry, the market for music related figures, and to see what I thought about the new $500 figure." said Josh. The main point shared with MTV was that if people love it, they'll buy it. "Everyone has their favorites. I have never had a customer that wanted every music figure that we carry", but if we have a figure of their favorite band, they're going to buy it.
During the interview, Josh was asked about some of his favorite music figures of the past. "I guess I think the whole Mcfarlane Elvis action figure line is pretty cool. My dad was a huge Elvis fan. I remember being fairly young sitting on the floor and watching the news the day Elvis died. My dad was crying. That seems a little wierd now, but at the time I just remember thinking that this was a BIG deal. They were playing clips of all of Elvis' TV performances. I don't remember ever seeing those clips again, but I certainly recognized that the Mcfarlane Elvis figures were based on those TV performances. I guess that's why I have a nostalgia for those figures". The Mcfarlane Jimi Hendrix figures and the NECA Kurt Cobain figures also made Josh's list. "What can I say, I started playing guitar around the time of the Nirvana MTV Unplugged" special. Some of those acoustic guitar songs were some of the first songs I ever played on guitar. It's just like hearing a song from your past and remembering the first time you ever heard the song. I guess these music figures are the same."
There's a nostalgia about music action figures just like a nostalgia about the past. People buy figures of bands that they love.
